Pathfinders

Pathfinder technology has been designed to support the Transatlantic Seafloor Research Challenge and to facilitate further human interactivity within World Oceans.

Pathfinders will be expected to maintain the average working depth for World Oceans of 4000+ meters or 2.5 miles below the surface. Pathfinders have been designed for endurance sub-sea research and exploration:- to cross the oceans floor in the quickest time, to cover the longest distance in continual contact with the ocean floor for the longest amount of time possible.

The World's Oceans are considered one of the most unexplored frontiers and a goldmine for scientific research - and if plans to privatise the seafloor get the go ahead in the years ahead, you are going to want one of these vehicles!

Transatlantic Challenge

Between 2 - 4 weeks submerged.

Pathfinders will be sponsored by global corporations and trailed for self-sufficiency.

Pathfinders will be required to drive along the seabed for as long as possible from the United Kingdom to the United States by any route possible in the fastest time.

Pathfinders will be equipped with an emergency escape device to carry all crew.

Vehicle Specification

Electric Power (Lithium Storage) control and life support systems with an recharging umbilical cable.

Between 10m - 15m long / 3m - 5m high / 2m - 4m wide.

Fours Wheels or Tracks or a combination will propel the vehicle on the sea floor.

One rear and at least two side propulsion devices will move the vehicle in mid-water

No waste will be allowed to leave the vehicle

Duration Research Challenge

Crew will consist of three:- a Pilot, Co-Pilot and Communications Engineer.

The Pathfinder will have a support vessel or control command centre at the surface.

The support vessel will have an emergency ROV to help recover the Pathfinder if required and will provide critical power and life support systems to the Pathfinder by steering the recharging umbilical cable.

The support vessel will track and monitor all activities 24/7 of the Pathfinder.
